Self catering holidays in Amersham - Buckinghamshire

Amersham is a market town located in the county of Buckinghamshire within the protected Chiltern Hills, a stunning area for country cottage holidays.  In Amersham there are essentially two towns, Amersham on the Hill and Old Amersham.  Amersham is mostly based on the hill and is a bustling commuter town with good links in to London with a good number of shops and restaurants.  At the base of the hill is Old Amersham which is a delightful town for self catering holidays. 

In Old Amersham you will find a number of historical buildings. The main high street is incredibly wide and was originally designed for coaches as Old Amersham was one of the main stops for coaches pulled by horses historically.  A number of the quaint pubs in Old Amersham were traditionally coaching inns.  The ancient Church of St. Mary that was established in the 13th century present here is a major tourist attraction along with several of the old pubs.  If you love high end shopping you should enjoy shopping in Old Amersham as there are a number of high end shops and boutiques in the town.  There are also a number of restaurants including some fine dining options.   Guided walks of the town are sometimes run from the museum on the High Street, pop in and ask them for details.  In our experience these guided walks are easily the best way of exploring and learning about Old Amersham whilst taking a cottage break.

Old Amersham is quite an exclusive town and with property prices being extremely high in the area you are unlikely to find budget self catering accommodation.   Some high quality self catering accommodation though with a price tag to match can sometimes work out good value when you calculate the cost on a person by person basis. 

Amersham and Old Amersham are nestled in the beautiful Chiltern Hills so there are good opportunities for walking and country activities nearby.  Whether you are planning a self catering walking holiday or simply want to stay somewhere scenic, Old Amersham could be a good choice.
