Self catering holidays in Totnes - Devon

Whoever does not visit Totnes has missed a special treat.  Just a 20 minute drive to the railway station there.  Turn left at the lights and you come to Dartington Hall by following the long drive up past the church - a truly beautiful place (quite apart from the Dartington Cider Press by the roaadside).   Turn right at the lights and you find yourself in the thick of Totnes, down by the riverside.  Not only is it the perfect start to the round Robin trip by boat, steam train and open top bus to Dartmouth, it is truly steeped in history. 

The main street starting at the top of the hill has the best tea shop in Devon (according to the BBC - see the china cups hanging out on the 'tea-tree'), and as you wind your way down you pass an eclectric mixture of 'alterntive' shopping experiences through to fabulous bijou shops and eating experiences.  But don't stop there.  Hidden behind this slender street and its magical archway is a myriad of ancient history.  Look behind the church at the mediavel town hall, look at the parallel narrow streets of quaint cottages, look back up at the remains of the caste.  All easily accessible.  Market day is quite an experience and you will be quite surprised at what you find there!!
