Painswick is a Cotswolds gem.   This small village with its splendid houses built from grey limestone is very easy on the eye with all of its pretty gables, mullioned windows and little streets built on the western slopes of a valley.  
Within the village are numerous former weavers cottages, notable Georgian town houses, and one-time cloth mills.  Gifts, antiques and collectables are all to be found here, together with a permanent outlet for the 60-strong Gloucestershire Guild of Craftsmen.  The town also has a Blues Club, which regularly attracts famous musicians of the genre.  The annual Painswick Arts Festival takes place in November.
