Self catering holidays in Ledbury - HerefordshireLedbury is probably the prettiest of Herefordshire's small towns, still retaining its medieval burgage layout, with attractive old properties including the timber-framed Market house, built on stilts, and the lovely old coaching inn, The Feathers. It is small enough to walk around easily, and we are fortunate in having a plethora of interesting independent shops rather than rows of High Street chains. We have a nationally acclaimed deli, (Ceci Paolo) (but there are two more), three butchers, including one selling rare breed meat, an organic shop, two greengrocers and proper bakers as well as other inviting shops, some found down small alleys hidden away from the main road. We have our own Town Crier, the best Poetry Festival in England (according to Andrew Motion) and we're perfectly positioned for visits to the Three Choirs counties of Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire. Herefordshire is the county of five rivers and the market town of Ledbury in the east of the county is named after the River Leadon which flows through the parish. The Market House in the centre of the town was erected in 1653 by John Abel, the King's carpenter and another fine example of black & white architecture is The Feather's Hotel on the High Street. The English Festival in springtime and Poetry Festival in the summer are two major events to enjoy with Lebury's easy access to the motorway network and main line railway. |
