Self catering holidays in Crete

The largest of the Greek islands, Crete or Kriti is popular with both Greek and foreign tourists.   A mountainous island, it has several gorges with walks and good views.  Like everywhere else in Greece, tourism is important. Visitors will find plenty of resorts, long sandy beaches, cafes and restaurants.  A drive along coastal roads provides breathtaking views of the azure seas.  If you are after a sunshine holiday, then it is best to visit Crete during summer time but do check average temperatures charts it can get really hot in the peak summer months.  September or late April can be good choices if you like to holiday when there is cooler but still usually pleasant temperatures.

The ancient Minoan civilisation lies revealed in the ruins of its palaces.  In common with all other parts of Greece, this is where myths and legends come alive.  Discover if this is where King Midas of 'the golden touch' lived, or where the Minotaur roamed underground labyrinths and devoured young people.  On a pleasanter note, did you know that bananas grow in Crete?  There are some great beaches on Crete and it is a good destination for summer sun.  There are also interesting archaeological sites to visit if you find ancient culture fascinating.  Whatever you decide to do during a self catering holiday in Crete, whether you enjoy simply taking it easy and soaking up the sun or exploring all that the island has to offer we hope you have a great time.
