Apartments, rentals and holiday accommodation near Hyde Park, London
Hyde Park is an oasis of green surrounded by some extremely busy roads. Many motorists avoid Hyde
Park Corner at all costs because the traffic is so fast and constant.
Hyde Park is a popular end point for protest marches in London. Speeches
will often be given after such a march. At one time speakers merely sought
the advantage of a pedestal to raise them above the crowds and this could have
been something as simple as a box - hence the expression of 'getting on
your soap box'. In today's hi-tech world,
you're more likely to see speakers backed by enormous electronic screens and
sound systems. Speaker's Corner (Near Marble Arch) in Hyde Park is worth a
visit to hear controversial views on almost any subject under the sun. Any
day at the weekend is worth a trip for a glimpse of British life and opinion,
and if you're fortunate you may even be amused and entertained.
A wide sandy strip runs through the southern part of Hyde Park. This is known as Rotten Row and is
there for horse riding. The Serpentine lake in the middle of the park provides
an opportunity for bathing and boating, mainly during the summer months,
although there is a group of hardy folk who participate in an annual New Year
dip. Otherwise, it's a 630 acres of refreshing green space in the
heart of London. It might be a good idea to take sandwiches or a
picnic with you if you're planning to walk around London's parks because it may
prove too difficult to find anything other than a snack from a fast food vendor. Marble Arch can be found on the eastern side of the park, and Kensington Palace on the west. The
park itself is surrounded by wide avenues lined with some of London's best
hotels. The nearest tube station for Hyde Park is Hyde Park Corner station on
the Jubilee Line. Self-catering
