The
national parks of England offer a wealth of choice for walkers of all
abilities. Ramblers and walkers are adept at discovering new walks
almost anywhere. The country is cris-crossed with numerous
footpaths and ancient rights of way. We have so many areas
designated as those of Outstanding Natural Beauty that it is sometimes
difficult to make a choice. Each
area has a different character and things to see and do. The south
of England tends to have gentle green hills and a mild climate.
This is where you can marvel at the white horses carved into the chalky
hillsides and mixed woodland with oak and beech.
A
more rugged terrain awaits walkers in the Midlands and the Peak
District. There are caves and waterfalls to discover, and a rock
strewn landscape with steeper hills and ridges.
The
further north you travel, the wilder the countryside becomes, with
higher hills and gleaming lakes in the Lake District National Park, to
the rugged and fabulous remoteness of Northumbria with its moors, rivers
and forests.
Find
a wide range of self-catering accommodation; cottages, remote and
secluded cottages, houses in the country, apartments, pine lodges, log
cabins, and even houseboats. A small cottage complex may be
suitable for large groups of walkers. Short breaks are usually available
except during the peak season.
