There are awesome cliffs where thousands of sea birds nest and puffins waddle about in the spring, lovely old fishing harbours, some of the best sandy beaches and bays in Britain.
This area has a strong character, the people are friendly and welcoming although you may need a guide to Doric and a good ear to understand some of the speech.
The best times to visit are May to September, for the best weather. Visit the nature reserves, go on woodland walks to stumble across ancient stone circles and Pictish remains.
