| Details of Event: Tel: 01858 821 270 The bottle-kick takes place each Easter Monday near the villages of Hallaton and Medbourne in Leicestershire. It begins with a parade through Hallaton with local people carrying a large hare pie and the three "bottles". Parts of the pie are thrown to the crowd for the "scramble" before the bottle-kicking begins. That involves two teams, one from Hallaton and one from Medbourne, trying to carry three separate "bottles" - which are similar to small beer barrels - to their respective villages. Each game can last more than an hour and at times resembles a huge rugby scrum! |

| Details of Event: Steam Engine Driving If the romantic age of steam is one that you have always wanted to relive then why not spend an exhilarating day operating a Great Western steam locomotive in the Forest of Dean. No skills are required, just a love of steam or diesel locos, coal, dust, oil and railways! You can do as much or as little as you like and operating duties can include driving and firing the loco, taking charge of the train as guard, operating the signal boxes, stopping the traffic in the middle of Lydney as crossing keeper and, if you have time, helping light up, raise steam, oil and clean the loco before duties in the morning and disposing of the loco and coaling up in the evening. It is advisable to wear old clothes and bring a pair of gloves. |

A Grade II listed detached stone barn near Newnham-on-Severn is a superb August 2008 conversion. Approached by a country lane and standing on the edge of its own 6 acre meadow (leading to ancient woodland) it is ideal for walking, bird watching, spotting deer etc or simply relaxing to watch the trees grow. It was formerly used for animal housing and fodder storage. It is large and well appointed and can comfortably accommodate up to six adults (and a child) in three bedrooms. Two double bedrooms (with ensuite shower rooms) are situated on the upper level, each having its own dedicated staircase. A twin room and family bathroom complete the arrangements on the ground floor. The sitting room is situated in the centre of the barn in the full height threshing bay with a vaulted oak-beamed ceiling. Rural views can be enjoyed through large glazed doors front and back. The fully fitted kitchen boasts a large gas range cooker for family gathering and is adjacent to the dining area.
