These five fabulous Vulcan Lodge cottages on the doorstep of the Elan Valley - arguably the most beautiful part of Wales - are equipped to the highest standards. Flexibility is the key word; they can be booked singly or together to cater for larger groups such as cycling groups, walking groups, angling groups or just for large family gatherings. (sorry - no single sex groups). The four cottages have been created from an 18th century country inn and they are furnished to an excellent standard with a VisitWales 4 star rating. There is use of a shared laundry and drying room, WIFI, a welcome pack on arrival and each cottage is well equipped with all kitchen necessities, a Blueray player and Freesat TVs with a 3D viewing option. The Middleton cottage also has a large dining room which can easily accommodate 20 people, making it ideal for large gatherings.

Recommended Attractions near Rhayader: The Red Kite Feeding Station on the edge of Rhayader at Gigrin Farm attract hundreds every year. The Elan Valley Visitor Centre is now open all year. The Rhayader Museum and Gallery CARAD - Community Arts Rhayader & District has a programme of events throughout the winter. Rhayader Leisure Centre has a pool, gymn and squash court and runs clubs for children during school holidays. The Willow Globe Theatre (on the doorstep of the Vulcan Lodge) has a summer programme. The Wyeside Arts Centre in Builth Wells (12 miles) has a cinema and theatre. The National Cycle Museum is in Llandrindod Wells (11 miles). Quackers - a children's playbarn - is 3 miles. The Centre for Alternative Technology is in Machynlleth, an hour's drive away.
Good places to visit near Rhayader: There is a circular scenic route round the Elan Valley which takes you round all of the dams and reservoirs. Aberystwyth is the nearest seaside town (35miles) and the journey is beautiful especially if you take the old mountain road. Machynlleth is another very beautiful drive (40 miles) especially if you take the back road from Llanidloes. If you wish you can then go on to Aberdovey, another 9 miles for a very pretty seaside town. Llyn Brianne is anaother beautiful network of lakes to the south (75 miles round trip).More about the Location:
Annual Events: The Annual Rhayader Carnival with a week of activities is the second week in July. The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society 4 day annual show is the third week in July. The Round the Lakes 20 mile race is in March each year.
Good places to eat near Rhayader: The Halt Cafe & Gardens is just across the car park and serves hot meals from 8.00 am to 5.30 pm including an all day breakfast. Rhayader (3 miles) has 11 pubs and most of them offer food. The Bell at Llanyre is 6 miles and the 4 star Metropole Hotel is 9 miles.
