Recommended Attractions near Kingston: Glorious beaches, a short drive to Dartmoor. Coastal towns of Salcombe, Dartmouth and the riverside villages of Newton Ferrers and Noss Mayo.

Good places to visit near Kingston: Places to visit. Salcombe is well worth a visit. We recommend you use the park and ride into the town. There are lovely shops here; Fat Face, Crew, Musto, Henri Lloyd, Sea Salt, to name a few. The estuary villages of Newton Ferrers and Noss Mayo are beautiful. Widecombe in the Moor still has the famous Widecombe Fair. This is a very traditional Dartmoor village. Make sure you call in at the Ruddlestone Inn, a very old pub! It is only recently that women have been accepted there!! Ashburton has many antique shops and is the gateway to the moor. There is a supberb fish shop here. Kingsbridge is the local town to Kingston, with plenty of shops an active waterfront estuary and plenty of things to do. There are gardens worth a visit at Lukesland, near Ivybridge. Occasionally, nearby Mothercombe House and Flete House have an open garden day and this is well worth a visit. You will see it being advertised on the A379 and also at the gate lodge to Flete House, also on the A379. If you are visiting during April/May you will notice a point to point race being advertised at Flete. This is country horse racing at its best and is a lovely day out. It is very popular locally with people taking picnics and enjoying a bet on the races. For children of all ages there are Woodlands fun park and there are leaflets on this and many other attractions in the area. The Vue Cinema in Plymouth. The same leisure complex also has ten pin bowling. The Vue leisure complex is on the way into Plymouth City Centre. From Modbury follow the A379 or head back to the A38 and follow the signs to Plymouth city centre. Down the A38, towards Exeter, at the Bovey Tracey exit (about 30 minutes away) there is a pottery where you can throw your own pots and decorate them. It also has a lovely tea room. Very close to this is the House of Marbles which has a lovely toy and gift shop. It also has an amazing marble run in the shop. Just down the road from VUE in Plymouth is The National Marine Aquarium, well worth a visit but does get busy on rainy days in the summer. For the Lewis Hamilton?s among you, there is an indoor go-karting circuit at Ernesettle in Plymouth (Just off the A38 before you get to the Saltash bridge) and Woodbury Exeter, where Nigel Mansell used to live! Trago Mills is also close to Bovey Tracey. We have a love/hate relationship with this place, and when you visit you will understand why!! We have spent many hours with our children on the small steam railway. It also has a really lovely indoor model railway exhibition (featured several times on Television and Blue Peter). On the site, there are several attractions here, such as go karts, a boating lake (with ride in pedlo swans and mini fishing trawlers for children ? and grown-ups alike!), dodgems etc. The store itself sells everything and you can pick up some bargains there!! It has a huge and impressive garden centre, with everything you could wish for. China Blue is a family friendly pottery based in Totnes. 01803 860908 Garden Centres. For garden enthusiasts there are also garden centres at Ivybridge (Endsleigh), just off the A38 and Otter Nursery on the A379 towards Plymouth between the village of Yealmpton and Brixton. Both garden centres have restaurants and sell clothing, shoes and gifts. Otter Nurseries is probably the better of the two, certainly the restaurant there is very good. At Buckfastleigh (off the A38), there is the South Devon Steam Railway and also the Butterfly farm.

Good places to eat near Kingston: There are a number of really lovely pubs and restaurants to recommend. The places mentioned below have been tried and tested by us. The Dolphin Inn. (Dog friendly) Just a stroll away from the cottage, with good pub food. You may need to reserve a table as it very popular with locals. The Modbury Inn. Run by someone from the village. Mention you are staying with Jerry and Liz in Kingston. Good pub grub! The California Cross Inn. Reliably good food. The garage at California Cross sells the COOK range of foods for coking at home and are excellent. You can also order these on line from COOK. The food is excellent if you want to eat in. The Journeys End Inn. (Dog friendly) This pub is situated in Ringmore, the neighbouring village. The pub offers pub food with a twist. The chef here used to work at the Burgh island hotel and has won awards for his cooking. Booking is essential. The Plantation House Hotel. This is a hotel and restaurant, also in Ermington. It is expensive, but lovely for a special occasion. The Rose and Crown. This pub is in the village of Yealmpton and offers a good menu. The Ship Inn. (Dog friendly) This is at Noss Mayo. This is a lovely pub, situated on the estuary. Please note that the car park is tidal!!!! The Oyster Shack. This is a fish-based restaurant in Aveton Gifford. The food is lovely, but the menu can be limited for non-fish eaters and it isn?t the cheapest place to eat. The Crabshell Inn. Kingsbridge. This is on the river at Kingsbridge. If the weather is warm, it is lovely to sit outside and eat. They serve a lovely breakfast. The Steam Packet. Totnes. This is on the river at Totnes, and again lovely to eat outside in the summer. The White Heart Modbury. Excellent food. The Gastro Bus at Bantham Beach. 07592811277Excellent reviews, burgers, ciabattas, hot dogs and drinks. The Ring Feeder, near California Cross is a new eating place. We haven?t been but several of my friends have and enjoyed it. They serve breakfast as well. The Ring Feeder cafe - In Salcombe, you have the Victoria Inn and the Ferryboat Inn. The Ferryboat Inn has a garden overlooking the estuary. Mothercombe School House is a restaurant, cafe, bar & takeaway located on the stunning Flete Estate, on the edge of Mothecombe beach car park, just a few minutes walk from the wonderful Mothecombe beach, opposite to Wonwell. Tel:01752830552 There is also a Chinese and Indian take away in Modbury. We would recommend booking tables in advance due to the high demand in high season.
