A favourite place to stop whilst cruising is the medieval village of Graiguenamanagh. The village was founded by Cistercian monks and many old buildings remain, providing a charming setting for atmospheric restaurants and traditional Irish pubs. The village holds an annual Regatta every August.
Another charming riverside settlement is Bennettsbridge. The town originally grew up around a medieval bridge.
