Holiday cottages or gites near Gerberoy in Picardy northern France
Gerberoy in the department of Oise in Picardy, northern France is a small village of not many more than 115 or so inhabitants. Rated as one the top 100 most beautiful villages in France, it has a rustic charm and is now has protected historic status. The 15th century houses are shuttered and timber-framed, set in narrow cobble-stone lanes amidst lush greenery and flourishing gardens with climbing roses and wisteria.
Long favoured by artists, there is a museum in the Hotel de Ville which features works by the painter Le Sidaner. There are Aubusson tapestries to be viewed in the 15th century Collègiale Saint Pierre at the top of the hill where you can also view Henri Sidaner's private garden nearby.
Photographers would appreciate a trip to Gerberoy to capture it's picture book perfection. Summer is best for this 'village of the roses'.
