Steeple Aston is a village on the edge of the beautiful Cherwell Valley in Oxfordshire, about 7 miles west of Bicester and 10 miles south of Banbury. There are a number of footpaths leading from the village, providing access to beautiful views across the water meadows where the river, the Oxford Canal and the railway come together. The land surrounding the village is mainly agricultural and there is plenty of wildlife to be seen including the occasional muntjac deer or badger in the early evening. Kingfishers can be spotted by the river and canal and a wide variety of birds visit local gardens. It looks like the ruins of an ancient abbey, but in fact was built in the 18th century for the owners of Rousham House.
