The three Hanningfield villages can be found south of Chelmsford, and north of Basildon. The reservoir at South Hanngfield has a fishing lodge, and visitor centre with a restaurant overlooking the water. Woodland with walks surrounds the reservoir. There are two hides located at the waters edge for observing water fowl. Bluebells are a great attraction mid May. There is usually a good number of geese that look for bread and other titbits from visitors, so do bring some. Nearby RHS Hyde Hall gardens are worth a visit.
