Ipswich on the coast in east Suffolk has a history of settlement going back to the Stone Age and Iron Age. Later influences include the Romans and Anglo Saxons. Much wealth was created in trading cloth and its history is documented in the Ipswich Museum. The 15th century Butter Market is one of several well-preserved buildings in the town. There is also a good shopping centre with plenty of places to eat.
