The county borough of Bridgend is sandwiched in between Neath Port Talbot and the Vale of Glamorgan in the south of Wales. It offers a mix of countryside and coast with plenty of history and culture.

The seaside town of Porthcawl has a harbour, promenade and beach, good for sailing and fishing. A Sea Festival is held during the second week of August. For shopping bargains visit the Bridgend Designer Outlet Centre.
A seaside place with a delightful name is Ogmore by the Sea where children would enjoy crabbing in rock pools. There are good coastal views, tea rooms. Near Ogmore-by-the-Sea is the haunted Ogmore Castle with stepping stones leading to the picture postcard village of Merthyr Mawr with its thatched cottages. There are warnings about rapidly changing tides in this area.
