Villas and apartments for holidays in Asturias north Spain
The Picos de Europa mountains are a dramatic limestone landscape cut through by the mile deep Cares Canyon and fast flowing streams. The peaks reach up to a dizzying 2600 metres. Hidden under the rock are some of the deepest and most mysterious caves in Spain. The highest peaks are challenging enough for experienced climbers. Hikers might spot rare creatures such as lynx or chamois amongst the trees on the lower slopes.
The medieval streets of Oviedo are set with an array of museums and imposing monuments. Priests and pilgrims have walked these streets for centuries, 17th century mansions whisper of past prosperity and political intrigue. Visit the Archaeological Museum, housed in a medieval monastery or the World Heritage Site of San Julian de los Prados. On the 21st of September, the city comes alive to the sights and sounds of traditional music and dancing on the highly decorated floats of the Day of America festivity. Cider making is a local tradition. To see the process for yourself, come in the summer months to the Cider Museum in Nava and finish the visit with a refreshing glass of freshly made cider.
