Self catering holidays in Carno - PowysCarno is a delightful village set on the A470 North to South Wales main road. A short drive from Carno will take you to the many coastal towns and beaches such as Aberystwyth, Aberdovey, Tywyn, Borth and Ynyslas. It is a great base for exploring the many market towns of Llanidloes, Newtown and Machynlleth. Carno was once home to the famous Laura Ashley textile factory which sadly closed its doors in 2005. Both Laura and Bernard are buried in Carno cemetery, opposite the Aleppo Merchant Inn pub. This pub serves great home cooked meals daily, and is a short walk away from Dwr Y Felin Log Cabins. Carno has a well stocked Spar which also has locally sourced produce and serves as a Post Office also. A five minute drive to Caersws takes you to the local Fish and Chip shop!! The second highest mountain in Wales, Cadair Idris is a short drive from Carno, with the parking area if you should wish to climb the mountain by Tal Y Llyn Lake. Llyn Clywedog and the Hafren forest where the source of the Severn lies is a 20 minute drive from Carno where there are lovely forest walks, and fishing on the lake. Corris has a great craft centre and also the Centre for Alternative Technology with the Corris Mine not far away and King Arthur's Labyrinth, a great day out for all the family to be found here.
