St Austell is one of Cornwall’s largest market towns, located just a few miles from the coast. This market town is home to a number of historical buildings and is a pretty town in which to enjoy a Cornish self-catering holiday. St Austell has become popular after the discovery of china clay in the mid 28th century, used in the production of porcelain as well as paper, pharmaceuticals and textiles, this was an important discovery. The nearby Wheal Martin china clay museum gives an interesting insight into St Austell’s discoveries and provides a great day out for the family.
Other draws to St Austell is its close proximity to the Eden Project, the famous and most popular tourist attraction in Cornwall, just two miles away! St Austell is one of the major towns found in the county of Cornwall on the south coast within what is nicknamed the ‘Cornish Riviera’. St Austell is positioned in one of the most beautiful areas of the Cornish coast, boasting green wooded hills, secluded coves and enchanting villages with beautiful stretches of sandy beach.
The area is bursting with various activities and places of interest including the fabulous Mevagissey harbour and pretty suntrap towns of Portmellon and Gorran Haven.
