The Stables is a superb rural retreat set in the Cambridgeshire wetlands, just south of the cathedral city of Ely. A single-storey accommodation, or bungalow, this three bedroom holiday home is in a tranquil setting on the fens, surrounded by grassland, country lanes and waterways. A small clock tower adds a distinct feature on the roof.

The holiday accommodation flows in a walk-through style. The kitchen, dining section and sitting area flow on from each other. The three bedrooms continue on beyond the sitting room. There are two twin rooms that follow on and lead to the main double bedroom. A wet room with a shower, W.C. and hand basin occupies a central part of the house.

This is a spacious bungalow with practical easy to clean tiled flooring throughout the living areas. The accommodation is fully equipped to allow up to six people self-cater for a holiday. All appliances are electric and include a refrigerator and freezer. Please be aware that there is no washing machine inside the cottage although guests may use the owner’s whose own house is in the same grounds.

Centrally heated, airy and comfortable, this would be an excellent holiday home for families with children, or even different generations that would appreciate ground-floor accommodation without obstructions or stairs. A cot and highchair for little ones is available.

Immediately outside this single-storey holiday cottage is a patio with garden seating and a table where it might be nice to enjoy lunch in the sunshine. Cambridgeshire is a fairly warm and dry English county that holds the record for the highest noted temperature in Britain.

Being out in the sticks, a lack of street lights mean that the night skies are wonderful for some star-gazing.

There is plenty of parking space.

One of the joys of a holiday in this rural part of Cambridgeshire is the Wicken Fen Nature Reserve which has boarded walks through the wetlands. Bring the family to spot butterflies, moths, glittery dragonflies, birds and deer. Children would love this place. Pop into the visitor centre for information. Hire bikes to cycle around with the family or take a boat trip along the Wicken Lode to see waterfowl at close quarters.

This part of Cambridgeshire is excellent for some cycling on holiday, the landscape is flat so that you can see for miles and the area is crisscrossed with narrow lanes.

You may wish to venture out from this rural idyll to sightsee. There are so many fabulous places to visit and it would be a shame not to whilst you are here.

The city of Ely lies a handful of miles north and the places to visit there are: the cathedral, Oliver Cromwell’s House black and white house which is virtually next door, the stained glass museum and for modern excitement, the Escape Rooms.

The City of Cambridge is a must. It would be unforgiveable to holiday in Cambridgeshire and not see this wonderful historic place. Marvel at the buildings, houses and colleges. There are numerous superb eateries to complete your day out and add to a memorable cottage holiday.
