    North of Inverness the A9 crosses the Moray Firth via the spectacular Cromarty bridge completed in 1982. The Black Isle as it is known, is actually a peninsula bounded by the Moray and Cromarty Firths rather than an island, which links to the rest of the mainland at the Muir of Ord. The Black Isle is a beautiful area of northern Scotland, with gently rolling hills and fertile farmland, which enjoys a particularly mild micro climate of its own.
