It is an ideal hub for exploring both the West Coast of Scotland and the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. Enjoy magnificent sea and mountain views and sunsets. It is only approx one hour's drive north of Glasgow yet has an idyllic and peaceful atmosphere and is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in Scotland. If you prefer a quiet day just relax in the garden , or in front of a log fire, and enjoy the view over Loch Fyne to the mountains beyond. Wildlife includes red squirrels, seals, otters, deer, seabirds etc.and if you are lucky, dolphins or basking sharks.
Good places to visit near Inverary: Visit scenic Inveraray, with its Castle, historic jail museum, whisky shop etc and have lunch at the George Hotel. En route to Inveraray you will pass Lochfynehead where the famous Loch Fyne Oyster Bar restaurant is situated along with its farm shop selling high quality local produce. Nearby is Fyne Ales, an acclaimed microbrewery. Drive down the side of Loch Fyne to Portavadie and visit the Marina shop or restaurant, then either cross via the ferry toTarbert, a small but lively harbour town with lots of restaurants on the other side of Loch Fyne, or drive to Tighnabruaich and visit the viewpoint overlooking the spectacular Kyles of Bute. Drive to Colintraive and cross by ferry to the Isle of Bute and visit magnificent Mount Stuart House. Rothesay on the Isle of Bute is a traditional seaside town with a promenade and pier. There are several sandy beaches on the island and a golf course. Take the circular route to Oban via Inveraray and Loch Awe, returning via the scenic coastal route through Kilmelford, Crinan and Lochgilphead. Another circular route is to Glencoe via Inveraray and Loch Awe, or if you prefer via the Loch Lomond National Park, returning via the coastal route from Ballachulish, past the famous Castle Stalker with its visitor centre and cafe, then over the Connel Bridge near Oban. Go walking in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park or Cowal Forest Park which have observation points for wildlife.
