About this cottage for up to 5 guests in Gwynedd
This unusual holiday home near Caernarfon in north Wales is an interesting place to stay in the small village of Y Felinheli on the Menai Straits overlooking the Isle of Anglesey with a backdrop of mountains. A former vestry, the building has been converted to provide upside-down accommodation for up to five people in three bedrooms. An outdoor hot tub and barbecue in the enclosed rear patio ensures hours of fun when not sightseeing around north Wales.
Inside the whitewashed cottage is a collection of smart rooms; the open plan beamed and vaulted living area is under the eaves and features lots of wooden beams and exposed feature stone walls. The floor is parquet, a log burner casts warm glow around the room. Several skylights let in plenty of light. Leather sofas are arranged around the log burner. To one side is a dining table with six chairs and the pristine white and black kitchen is at the back. A modern glass and wood staircase leads to the three bedrooms on the ground floor.
One of the bedrooms has a king-size bed and en-suite shower room, another a double and the third is a single bedroom. There is a family bathroom complete with a full size bath, shower cubicle and WC.
A washing machine and tumble dryer in the utility room keeps everyone in clean clothes on holiday.
This is a high quality self-catering house which combines comfort with practicality and style. Any families with babies or toddlers can obtain a cot and highchair on request.
Yr Hen Festri is a good choice of holiday home for a family or friends who like to stay in town near shops, pubs and eateries.
Visitors are spoilt for choice with places to visit and things to see in northwest Wales. A journey over the Menai Bridge to Anglesey is a must, as is a day or two in Snowdonia. There are castles galore to visit such as Caernarfon, Penrhyn and Beaumaris and lots of sandy beaches. Tourist attractions abound; there is the National Slate Museum near Llanberis and various activities such as abseiling, indoor climbing and kayaking at the Blue Peris Mountain Centre. With so much to see and do, one week might just not be enough.
