Although small, the ancient and picturesque  town of Ledbury has much to offer visitors. Easily accessible by road or rail, it is within 2 to 2 and a half hours of  London and Manchester and about an hour from Birmingham and Bristol, but its accessibility has not spoilt its tranquil, rural nature.

Ledbury  lies in Herefordshire, but at the foot of the Malvern Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and within  minutes of both Worcestershire and Gloucestershire, the Three Choirs counties, beloved of Elgar, Vaughan Williams and many other composers and poets. Indeed, Ledbury is host annually to its very own Poetry Festival, described by Andrew Motion as the best in England. Other local festivals include one devoted to acres of wild daffodils, one to apple blossom and the production of cider and perry, for which the area is famous.

The town still retains its medieval lay-out, and you will find perhaps the best-known image of Herefordshire, the cobbled lane leading to the church, with the musket ball holes in the door, a legacy of the Civil War. Little alleys will lead you to interesting individual shops of which there are many, including the nationally acclaimed Ceci Paolo (deli). Food shops sell local produce, in which the local area excels. Here, shopowners like our award-winning butcher David Waller and his sons, will carry your shopping to the car for you and wave as you walk past.

If you are looking for a slower pace of life and a friendly, warm welcome to the countryside, Ledbury could be just the place you’re looking for. Many people come to visit and end up moving here!
