This particular part of Kerry is unique for stargazing as it is the single 'gold-tier' dark sky reserve in the northern hemisphere.  Other attractions in this area include the famous Ring of Kerry with its' outstanding views, 9th century Loher Fort, the archaeological site of Church Island at Lough Currane, and the lovely village of Waterville overlooking Ballinskelligs Bay with many bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets.

Within an hour’s drive from Dublin is the delightful village of Fordstown which nestles in the Boyne valley. You will find lots of quaint period self-catering cottages here that have coffee machines and many have lovely landscaped gardens with fantastic areas in which to relax with a brew. Some of these gardens have little bubbling streams darting through, a pleasant addition to any outdoor retreat. Highlights of this area include the UNESCO 5,000 year old site of Newgrange, scenic walks alongside the River Boyne, ancient high crosses and a 9th century round tower. All surrounded by the beauty of this scenic part of Ireland. Also worth a visit is the town of Trim with its' 12th century castle and seven-mile walk taking in the greatest number of historical monuments in the country.
