Sandbed is an outstanding visit England 4 star, stone-built cottage beautifully situated in the Rawthey Valley, between Harter and Wild Boar Fell.

Our dog friendly cottage offers first-class self-catering accommodation, full of modern features, including high speed fibre optic broadband yet retaining the character and charm of a bygone age.

The open plan living area is spacious and well laid out, with a warm and cosy sitting area with a wood burner, a modern fully equipped kitchen, a dining area. Complimented by beautiful oak beamed ceiling, stone work and flagged floor.

The first floor of the cottage is reached by a handmade oak staircase, which leads onto a galleried area with comfortable seating on which to watch the many wild birds and native red squirrels. Off this sitting area there are 2 good sized bedrooms, one with a king size bed including 100% Egyptian cotton bedding and one with 2 single beds, both boast wonderful views of the fells and the wooded area opposite, a spacious shower room with WC, basin and large quadrant shower cubicle.

The accommodation seamlessly combines the exposed stonework and lovely old beams to provide the ideal holiday home to enjoy this wild and rugged corner of Cumbria.

French doors open onto a patio area with panoramic views of the surrounding fells, a lovely place to sit and contemplate the panoramic views of beautiful scenery and if you're lucky you may even see one of our adorable native red squirrels visit the feeders. There is a dog friendly garden to the side of Sandbed Cottage, with stunning views towards Fell End Clouds lime stone paving, take a while to sit, unwind and relax on the garden bench or enjoy a BBQ.

On arrival at Sandbed cottage Steve or Karen will meet & greet guests and give any information for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday, there will also be a welcome hamper including tea, coffee, milk, 1/2 doz of our own free range eggs and a home baked loaf of bread.

The steep wooded slopes of Smardale gill contrasts with the views of open rolling countryside from the viaduct. A great place for flowers, butterflies and birds. The Settle to Carlisle Railway--- is one of the most scenic and impressive railways in the UK, with viaducts, tunnels and the wild scenery of the North Pennines, Eden Valley and Yorkshire Dales. Pendragon Castle---the ruin of Pendragon Castle, built in the 12th century and reputed to be the place where Uther Pendragon, King Arthur's father died, is situated within Mallerstang. The castle was built next to the River Eden in the Vale of Mallerstang in the late 12th century, probably by Hugh de Morville. Like the nearby castles of Appleby and Brough, Pendragon came into the possession of the Clifford family. Classic Coach Tours--- is a small friendly family run business specialising in running classic vintage half-cab buses and coaches. They operate three timetabled service routes, all year from Kirkby Stephen to Barnard Castle and Brough to Kendal and seasonally from Kirkby Stephen to Hawes. Loved by tourists and locals alike, these are a great day out.

Sedbergh's market is on a Wednesday and has several interesting shops to look at as well as many interesting little passageways to lose yourself down.

    Lovely week, lovely weather, crisp and clear for walking. Cosy and well equipped cottage, loved watching the wild birds and the red squirrel. we will definitely be back!
