Located in North Shropshire, Whitchurch is an attractive Shropshire market town which could be an excellent base for a self-catering holiday. With numerous historical buildings and an attractive canal on the outskirts of town, this appealing market town has plenty to recommend it for family holidays, romantic breaks or getaways with friends.

Whitchurch is positioned on what was originally a Roman route to Chester and near a border that was fought over for many centuries, so there are many sites of historical interest that you can visit for day trips.   Historical Chester in nearby Cheshire is just 21 miles away and highly recommended for a visit with its historical architecture, shops, restaurants and fascinating city walls. Parking in the town centre of Whitchurch itself is free and there are usually plenty of spaces available.  If you visit Victoria Park in the centre of town you will see several short walks taking you out of town and along canal-side and into a nearby country park.

Another good day out can be had for all the family at Hawkstone Park Follies close to Weston under Redcastle, which is popular with both young and old. This woodland park is made up of intricate pathways, ravines, arches, cliffs, caves and bridges. It is said that King Arthur himself addressed his troops in the awesome caves. Nearby Wem is also worth a visit with its Museum of Myth and Fable, where Shropshire's legends are brought to life.

Shropshire with its quiet country lanes is an excellent place for cycling, walking and fishing.  For golfers, Whitchurch boasts two 18 hole golf courses at the MacDonald Hill Valley and there are also others at Hawkstone Park and Carden Park. When it comes to sightseeing, there are some fantastic sights that you can discover from Whitchurch. Visit the Ironbridge World Heritage Site, Chester, Shrewsbury or explore the Welsh Marches or Shropshire Lakes, all within around half an hour's drive away. There are also castles, gardens and Roman sites within easy travelling distance.
